Pulau Tiga Island lays off the west coast of Borneo, just slightly south of the state capital Kota Kinabalu. You may well have heard of it before but under a different name, Survivor Island. A few years ago Pulau Tiga played host to this hit television series. They chose Pulau Tiga for its outstanding natural beauty. Pulau Tiga has now returned to a peaceful state, somewhere where you can relax on her unspoilt beaches, the South China sea that surrounds the island is full of marine life flickering around the corals. For the individuals looking for something a bit special, take a short journey on foot through the forest to the interior and take a bath in the extraordinary mud volcanoes.
The whole Island, which is about eight square miles, was gazetted as a National Park and has been protected by Sabah parks since 1978 in order to protect the wonderful natural environment that Pulau Tiga has to offer. As the name goes, Pulau Tiga is made up of 3 islands, Pulau Tiga, Pulau Kalampunian and Pulau Kalampunian Damit. It is on Pulau Kalampunian and Kalampunian Damit that one will be able to sea the many sea snakes come to shore.
