Sipadan is consistently placed as one of the top 5 scuba diving locations in the world. This reputation is well deserved as Sipadan not only presents an absolutely staggering variety of fish life and some of the larger creatures such as turtles and sharks, but it also features an immense diversity of corals and some fantastic topography including vertical wall dives, plunging 500 metres down. All this beauty has been protected to the highest degree, which included the recent banning of all resorts located on the island of Sipadan itself.
These resorts have now relocated to some of the other spectacular islands or sandbanks that lie just minutes away. One of the best alternative locations is the shallow sandbanks of the Ligitan Reefs where you will find the Sipadan-Kapalai Resort, which sits on sturdy stilts above the water in a style reminiscent of the Maldivian resorts.
Kapalai is spacious with high quality chalets, gentle sea breezes and amazing views of marine life in the turquoise waters below. Dining at Kapalai is also excellent, sumptuous meals are served in buffet style under the terraced, open central structure. A big western sundeck with sitting area allows guests to have an evening drink and chat with gentle sea breezes and a view of a beautiful Sulu Sea sunset.
